Boston Multi-Sport Road Trips for 2026-2027

Boston is one of the best cities in North America for a multi-sport road trip. With the Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, and New England Patriots all within easy reach of downtown, fans can experience multiple professional sporting events in a single trip. Whether you're planning an NHL and NFL weekend or combining hockey with a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, Boston offers one of the most rewarding sports travel experiences in the United States.

TD Garden sits above North Station in downtown Boston, placing Bruins and Celtics games within walking distance of many of the city's best hotels, restaurants, and attractions. Fenway Park is just a short ride on the MBTA Green Line or about a 20-minute walk from the downtown core, while Gillette Stadium is easily accessible by commuter rail or car for Patriots home games. Few cities offer this combination of walkability, public transit, and iconic sporting venues.

The 2026-2027 schedule features two confirmed weekends where fans can combine a Boston Bruins game with a New England Patriots home game, while several additional Bruins home stands create opportunities to add a Boston Celtics or Boston Red Sox game depending on the time of year. Throughout this guide, we'll highlight the best multi-sport weekends, recommended downtown hotels, transportation options, and planning tips to help you make the most of your Boston sports getaway.

Why Boston Is One of the Best Multi-Sport Road Trip Destinations

Boston is one of the easiest cities in North America to experience multiple professional sporting events in a single trip. TD Garden, home of the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics, sits directly above North Station, placing fans within steps of the MBTA subway, commuter rail, and many of downtown's most popular hotels. From the West End, Faneuil Hall, and the Financial District, most visitors can walk to the arena in 10 to 15 minutes, while Fenway Park is only a short ride away on the Green Line or an easy walk through Back Bay.

The city also offers one of the strongest sports calendars in the country. During the fall, New England Patriots home games regularly overlap with the opening months of the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics seasons, while late-season Boston Red Sox games can create opportunities to experience three professional sports in a single weekend. Throughout the winter, Bruins and Celtics home games frequently align, making it easy to build an itinerary around multiple events at TD Garden.

Boston's compact layout is what truly sets it apart from other sports destinations. Fans can spend the morning walking the Freedom Trail, enjoy lunch in the North End, catch an afternoon at Fenway Park, and still be back downtown in time for an evening Bruins or Celtics game. Restaurants, historic neighbourhoods, waterfront attractions, and excellent public transit allow visitors to spend less time travelling between venues and more time enjoying the city.

For Patriots games, Gillette Stadium is located in Foxborough, approximately 45 minutes south of downtown Boston. On game days, the MBTA operates special commuter rail service from South Station, providing an easy alternative to driving. Staying in downtown Boston remains the best strategy for most multi-sport trips, allowing visitors to combine the city's walkable sports district with convenient access to Gillette Stadium when the Patriots are at home.

Best Boston Multi-Sport Weekends for 2026-2027

The 2026-2027 schedule features two standout weekends where fans can experience both a Boston Bruins game at TD Garden and a New England Patriots game at Gillette Stadium. These are the easiest and most popular combinations for visitors planning a Boston sports getaway.

Both itineraries are ideally suited to a two or three-night stay in downtown Boston, allowing fans to walk to TD Garden, explore the city, and travel to Foxborough on Sunday for the Patriots game.

October 10-11, 2026

Boston Bruins vs. Philadelphia Flyers + New England Patriots vs. Las Vegas Raiders

This is the premier multi-sport weekend on Boston's 2026-2027 calendar. Spend Saturday afternoon at TD Garden as the Boston Bruins host the Philadelphia Flyers before heading to Foxborough on Sunday to watch the New England Patriots take on the Las Vegas Raiders. With both games scheduled during the day, you'll still have Saturday evening free to enjoy Boston's restaurants, nightlife, and historic neighbourhoods.

Weekend Schedule

Saturday, October 10

  • Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins
  • TD Garden
  • Afternoon game

Saturday Evening (Optional)

  • Philadelphia 76ers at Boston Celtics (Preseason)
  • TD Garden
  • Potentially Jaylen Brown's first return to Boston following his offseason trade

Sunday, October 11

  • Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots
  • Gillette Stadium
  • Afternoon game

Why This Weekend Is Worth the Trip

This itinerary offers the opportunity to attend as many as three professional sporting events in just two days. Fans can watch a Bruins matinee, return to TD Garden for the Celtics preseason game later that evening, then travel to Gillette Stadium on Sunday for Patriots football. Very few cities offer this kind of schedule without changing hotels.

October is also one of the best times to visit Boston. Fall foliage is approaching its peak, outdoor patios remain busy, and destinations like the North End, Beacon Hill, the Freedom Trail, and Newbury Street are all within easy reach of downtown hotels. Staying downtown allows you to walk to TD Garden while using the MBTA commuter rail or driving to Foxborough for Sunday's game.

December 5-6, 2026

Boston Bruins vs. Detroit Red Wings + New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills

The December weekend combines one of hockey's greatest rivalries with one of the NFL's biggest divisional matchups. Start your trip on Saturday afternoon as the Boston Bruins host the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden before heading to Foxborough on Sunday for the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium. It's the perfect itinerary for fans looking to experience two of New England's biggest sporting events in a single weekend.

Weekend Schedule

Saturday, December 5

  • Detroit Red Wings at Boston Bruins
  • TD Garden
  • Afternoon game

Sunday, December 6

  • Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots
  • Gillette Stadium
  • Afternoon game

Why This Weekend Is Worth the Trip

This weekend brings together two of the most recognizable rivalries in North American sports. The Bruins and Red Wings have produced memorable Original Six matchups for decades, while Patriots vs. Bills remains one of the premier games on the NFL calendar. Buffalo fans are known for travelling in large numbers to Foxborough, creating one of the loudest and most energetic atmospheres of the Patriots season.

December is also a fantastic time to experience Boston. Holiday lights, seasonal markets, and festive decorations transform the city's historic neighbourhoods, while downtown hotels place you within a short walk of TD Garden and countless restaurants in the North End, Beacon Hill, and the Seaport. On Sunday, the MBTA commuter rail provides convenient service to Gillette Stadium, allowing you to enjoy the game without worrying about parking.

Recommended Package

Our Boston Multi-Sport Road Trip Package includes Boston Bruins tickets, New England Patriots tickets, a downtown Boston hotel within walking distance of TD Garden, optional round-trip transportation to Gillette Stadium, and the flexibility to customize your trip with additional nights or premium seating options.

Where to Stay in Boston

Downtown Boston is the best place to stay for a multi-sport road trip. Most visitors should look for hotels near TD Garden, North Station, the West End, or Faneuil Hall. These neighbourhoods put you within walking distance of Bruins and Celtics games while providing easy access to restaurants, attractions, and the MBTA commuter rail to Gillette Stadium.

If your itinerary includes a Patriots game, resist the temptation to stay near Foxborough. A downtown hotel provides a much better overall experience, allowing you to enjoy Boston's nightlife, historic sites, and waterfront before taking the commuter rail or driving to Gillette Stadium on game day.

For longer trips that include Fenway Park, the Seaport, or the Freedom Trail, Downtown Crossing and the Financial District are also excellent choices, offering convenient transit connections throughout the city.

Should You Stay Near Gillette Stadium?

Although Gillette Stadium is located in Foxborough, about 45 minutes south of downtown Boston, we recommend staying in downtown Boston for almost every multi-sport road trip.

The reason is simple. Every featured itinerary begins with a Boston Bruins game at TD Garden, while the New England Patriots play on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Staying downtown allows you to walk to TD Garden, explore Boston's restaurants and attractions, and enjoy the city before travelling to Foxborough on game day. Changing hotels between Saturday and Sunday rarely saves enough time to justify the inconvenience.

For most visitors, the easiest option is taking the MBTA commuter rail from South Station to Gillette Stadium or driving on Sunday morning before returning to Boston after the game. Elite Sports Tours also offers round-trip transportation as part of many Boston multi-sport travel packages, making it easy to enjoy both events without worrying about parking or navigating game-day traffic.

If you're attending only a Patriots game or extending your stay in Foxborough, hotels around Patriot Place can be a convenient option. However, for a Bruins and Patriots road trip, downtown Boston remains the best place to stay.

Getting Around Boston During Your Multi-Sport Road Trip

One of Boston's biggest advantages as a sports destination is its excellent public transportation. TD Garden sits directly above North Station, making it easy to reach by the MBTA Green and Orange Lines, while Fenway Park is only a short ride away on the Green Line or about a 30-minute walk through the city. Most downtown hotels are within walking distance of TD Garden, so you can spend less time travelling and more time enjoying the city.

On Patriots game days, Gillette Stadium is approximately 45 minutes south of downtown Boston. The MBTA operates special commuter rail service between South Station and Foxborough for every New England Patriots home game, providing a convenient alternative to driving and parking. Rideshare services and rental cars are also popular options, although game-day traffic can add to travel times.

If you're flying in, Boston Logan International Airport is less than 30 minutes from downtown by public transit, taxi, or rideshare, making Boston one of the easiest sports cities to reach for a weekend getaway. Whether you're arriving by plane, train, or car, getting between TD Garden, Fenway Park, and Gillette Stadium is straightforward with a little planning.

Boston Between Games: What to Do on Your Sports Weekend

The reason Boston works as a sports weekend destination is that the trip is not just the games. A weekend here that skips the food, the neighborhoods, and the walking is a wasted trip. Here is what our team recommends between Saturday's hockey game and Sunday's football game.

The North End. Boston's Italian neighborhood, a 15-minute walk from TD Garden. Neptune Oyster on Salem Street is the classic post-game seafood and lobster roll stop, though the wait can be long on Saturday nights. Regina Pizzeria on Thacher Street is the original Boston pizza institution. Modern Pastry and Mike's Pastry both draw lines around the block on weekends for cannoli.

The Freedom Trail. The 2.5-mile walking route that connects 16 Revolutionary War historic sites, starting at Boston Common and ending at the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown. A Saturday morning walk of even half the trail before puck drop hits the highlights, including the Massachusetts State House, the Granary Burying Ground, the Old State House, and Faneuil Hall. Free to walk, and one of the best introductions to the city.

Fenway Park and the Fenway neighborhood. Even when the Red Sox are not in season, Fenway Park tours run daily and the Fenway neighborhood around Kenmore Square and Boylston Street has one of the best pre-game restaurant and bar scenes in the city. The Bleacher Bar underneath the center field bleachers is worth a stop, and Time Out Market Boston on Boylston Street layers a dozen restaurants under one roof.

The Seaport District. The city's newest neighborhood, a 20-minute walk or short T ride from downtown. Row 34, Yvonne's, and Legal Harborside are standout dinner picks. The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) and the Seaport Common are worth an afternoon walk. This is where much of the modern Boston restaurant scene has landed over the past decade.

Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. A three-minute walk from TD Garden, though the food court is more tourist than local. Better nearby options include the Union Oyster House (the oldest continuously operating restaurant in America) and Bell in Hand Tavern (one of the oldest bars in the country). Worth a walk-through for the history even if you eat elsewhere.

Newbury Street and the Back Bay. Boston's premier shopping and restaurant strip. A 15-minute T ride or 30-minute walk from downtown. Sonsie, Grill 23, and Abe & Louie's are the classic Back Bay restaurant picks. This is where fans staying downtown often end up for Saturday-night dinner if the North End is booked.

Beacon Hill and the Boston Common. The cobblestone streets, gaslight lanterns, and brick townhouses of Beacon Hill are the city at its most cinematic. A morning walk of Charles Street, Louisburg Square, and Acorn Street pairs naturally with a walk of the Boston Common and the Public Garden. Free, walkable from every downtown hotel, and one of the great morning walks in America.
