The adjacent Museum of Art and Nasher Sculpture Center are both worth a morning between games, and the food-truck row at Klyde Warren Park serves as a strong casual lunch stop before an afternoon Cowboys game.

The Texas barbecue scene. The city has become one of the top three barbecue cities in America over the past decade. Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum is the classic starting point (the brisket is genuine top-tier). Terry Black's Barbecue on Rock Island Street is the Austin transplant with the best long-plate spread. Cattleack Barbecue in Farmers Branch (Thursday and Friday lunch only) is the local pilgrimage stop for serious barbecue tourism. Order the fatty brisket, pork ribs, and a link of jalapeno-cheese sausage per two people; that is the standard Texas order.

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. The museum on the sixth floor of the former Texas School Book Depository documenting the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in November 1963. The Fort Worth Stockyards. Thirty minutes west of downtown via Interstate 30. The Stockyards National Historic District preserves the original 1866 cattle-drive infrastructure with a twice-daily longhorn cattle drive every morning and afternoon. Billy Bob's Texas (the largest honky-tonk in the world) is here, along with Riscky's Barbeque, Cattlemen's Steakhouse (a Fort Worth institution since 1947), and the Fort Worth Rodeo at the Cowtown Coliseum. A morning trip to the Stockyards works well as a Thursday morning before the Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game or a Saturday morning during the November 14-15 weekend.

The Bishop Arts District. The historic neighborhood in North Oak Cliff south of downtown Dallas, redeveloped over the past 15 years into one of the most walkable food and shopping strips in the city.
